Cuisine: Nepalese
This restaurant has closed. Do not be fooled by the new restaurant called Tara’s Himalayan Cuisine at the same location, as it is awful. Located in a seedy section of Venice Boulevard (or is that redundant), Katmandu Kitchen is the current holder of Ravenous Rob’s Best Nepalese Food in L.A. award. Admittedly, a rather narrow category, but this place is good. An assortment of relatively mild Nepalese curries await one here; Ravenous Rob’s personal favorites were the dashain special, a spicy goat curry, the butter chicken, savory and tender, and the alu pulango, a simple and refreshing curry with spinach and potatoes. A must have on any visit are the momo, Nepalese-style dumpling similar in form to xiao long bao, but flavored almost entirely differently. Some yak meat dishes are also available on the menu, for those who want to try something new and spend a lot more.
